Full description

Step into a metalworking workshop in Siena and get a fascinating glimpse into traditional craftsmanship. Observe a collection of antique tools, dating from 200 to 100 years ago, illustrating the historical techniques used in metalworking.

See how artisans employ various types of hammers to shape and detail the metal pieces. Learn about the intricate process of repoussé—a technique involving the shaping of metal by hammering from the reverse side to create raised designs.

Throughout the visit, see the different stages of the craftsmanship: the initial shaping, the intermediate refining, and the final finishing touches. Admire a rich array of works related to the Palio di Siena, such as elaborately crafted banners, alabardas (lances), and decorative plates.

If time permits, there is also the opportunity to visit another workshop located in the Vicolo della Fortuna, as well as the adjacent underground warehouse carved into the tuff. In this historic space, numerous objects from the past are preserved—collectibles gathered over the years by ancestors and ancestors' family members, originally collected for trade. This additional visit provides a deeper insight into the local craftsmanship and historical trade practices of Siena.
